But the audience reading sees it as him being on the floor is a low point for someone who thought he could bully his way to being on top. This could represent his vulnerability that he tries not to show externally. The first panel has a bird’s eye view of Shoya.
He is thinking about his so-called “friends” that didn’t do anything to help him off the floor. On this page, Shoya is waking up after falling on the floor after fighting with Shoka. There are so many panels of people he commentates over, this is meant to really show us how much he doesn’t like his peers. He commentates over why he feels as though they he thinks they have an X on their face. Shoya is known to be very depressed and this just highlights this.

He sees groups of people as not trustworthy, he even sees is on tv screens and posters. Being on everyone’s face, it means that he really sees himself as alone in this world. The X’s on their faces are meant to be over the people that Shoya does not trust. On this page, the audience sees how Shoya views his classmates. He is known to be very misunderstood within the story.
He could represent people who have are perceived to be tough on the outside but have an entirely different internal personality. He is very vulgar in his speech but in other scenes he is seen as very emotional. Shoya could also represent an identity group as he is the main character that the audience sees through in this story. With this, a lot of the panels with Shoko in it have a lot of varying facial expressions as she cannot express herself through spoken words. We can see that it could come from the view point of Shoko as she is a misunderstood deaf person in the eyes of Shoya. The identity group of A Silent voice could be represented in a lot of groups. The entire manga is being narrated by Shoya which could give the audience a chance to also be on the outside of the situation. I think that this manga will well represent persons with disabilities and their struggles. His isolation made him become depressed as the years went on to the point where he almost commited suicide until he had reconnected with Shoko and decided to try and atone for his sins. After this, Shoya had gotten shunned from teachers and other students for the extreme bullying. Shoko had gotten bullied so bad that she eventually transferred schools. Shoya and his past friends used to bully Shoko because she is deaf. The story consists mostly surrounding two characters of Shoya Ishida and Shoko Niyimishiya and their other 6 friends. A Silent Voice is a manga published in 2013.
