He could represent people who have are perceived to be tough on the outside but have an entirely different internal personality. He is very vulgar in his speech but in other scenes he is seen as very emotional. Shoya could also represent an identity group as he is the main character that the audience sees through in this story. With this, a lot of the panels with Shoko in it have a lot of varying facial expressions as she cannot express herself through spoken words. We can see that it could come from the view point of Shoko as she is a misunderstood deaf person in the eyes of Shoya. The identity group of A Silent voice could be represented in a lot of groups. The entire manga is being narrated by Shoya which could give the audience a chance to also be on the outside of the situation. I think that this manga will well represent persons with disabilities and their struggles. His isolation made him become depressed as the years went on to the point where he almost commited suicide until he had reconnected with Shoko and decided to try and atone for his sins. After this, Shoya had gotten shunned from teachers and other students for the extreme bullying. Shoko had gotten bullied so bad that she eventually transferred schools. Shoya and his past friends used to bully Shoko because she is deaf. The story consists mostly surrounding two characters of Shoya Ishida and Shoko Niyimishiya and their other 6 friends. A Silent Voice is a manga published in 2013.
